Help Needed on Worship Committee
|
*If you would like to serve on a Committee whose purpose it is to identify and assess possible improvements to the Sanctuary for challenged worshippers, please email (Willis43@prodigy.net) or call Tom Willis through the church office.
*To sponsor the Altar Flowers or a Sanctuary Candle you can indicate on the sign-up sheet on the Bulletin Board beside the Parish Office door the date(s) which you wish to reserve to remember someone special and write your name and phone number next to the date. The suggested donation for flowers is $45. The suggested donation for a Sanctuary Candle is $15, again covering the candle itself and the associated costs incurred by the Altar Guild.

In our services of the Eucharist during Lent, to enhance the reflective mood of the season, the table has been set aside and the Celebrant consecrates the elements facing the altar. This liturgical gesture symbolizes the transcendence of God and the participation of the Priest as well as the people in a Lenten posture of Penitence and humility.
Our colors for Lent are purple and blood red—purple to remind us of the solemn time of reflection about our obedience to God and love of our neighbor, and blood red for Holy Week to remind us of Christ’s Passion.
In addition, greens adorn the altar rather than flowers. Lenten services open and close with a silent procession to emphasize this somber season of penitence.
The celebrant returns to the Table on Easter Day and the Table will remain through Easter and Pentecost, symbolizing God’s presence among us as we gather around His Table. With Easter services the "alleluias" in our responses will return as well, and our colors change to white or gold for Resurrection, new birth and festival celebration.
It is appropriate to kneel during the Eucharist in Lent as a sign of penitence, and stand in prayer during Easter to celebrate redemption and our new life in Christ.
